The Department of Clinical Chemistry is a unit of the Institute of Clinical Sciences of the Medical Faculty at the University of Turku. It is integrally related to the clinical chemistry and hematology laboratories of the Central Laboratory of the Turku University Hospital. The functions of the department are:

• to give medical students the basic education in laboratory medicine and to educate medical graduates for specialization in clinical chemistry, and to develop further the basic and postgraduate education in clinical chemistry; and
• to advance the development and performance of clinical chemistry by active research of its own and in collaboration with the clinical departments and institutions
